I’ve found early images from Tunisia, India, China and Japan. The shots here are from Tunisia and India, with a single shot from Afghanistan. These were all in glass slides of the type used for putting on talks, or showing friends. Were all of these taken on the same trip? I’m not sure, but they appear to be from a similar time. In any event Garnett was certainly a world traveller for his day, the era of steamship travel. A trip around the world would have taken the best part of a year given the pace of travel in country and the wide range of destinations. And they, Garnett and his traveling companion (Albert Collins?), didn’t just land in Rome and see the local sites, instead they would take overland trips from place to place, by motorcycle, train, horses… whatever was at hand. Quite the adventuresome pair.
